Days 6/7: Memphis and New Orleans

The day before yesterday we were in Memphis where we did nothing the first day because it was a bit of a drive. We did however, get to see where Martin Luther King Jr. Was assinated, we also got to see the Peabody Ducks; these ducks march everyday in and out of an elevator in a really posh hotel in the centre of Memphis.

Yesterday we got to go and tour Elvis Presley's house which was realy interesting.

We then had a 6 hour drive ahead of us because we were heading to New Orleans. We arrived at our MASSIVE townhouse around 6 where we set up everything and headed out for dinner. It was one of the girls 21st Birthday so we took her out and she had a great time!

Today: We woke up and had breakfast and then was wondering what we could do, we decided to wander around and over to the Outlets so we could have some retail therapy. It was great! New Orleans is actually really pretty (Were staying in the not so pretty area...!)

We then headed to the pool when we got bavk and sunbathed for a while, ate dinner and chilled for the evening.

Tomorrow we're heading Panama City so we can start hitting the beaches! Looking forward to getting a tan!

Think thats all for now

Day 5: Nashville

We had a 4 hour drive but we cut it up by going to the Jack Daniels Distillery and having a tour, it was really interesting!

Nashville was so cool!

We stayed in a hostel instead of camping which was luxury and it was a really nice hostel as well!

We went out to dinner at a place called Dicks which is a restaurant where you get servers that are really rude/sassy and hilarious. They throw menus at you and make fun of everybody throughout the whole meal, definitely an experience!

After that we headed back to the hostel and got ready to go out and headed to the "strip" it was so vibrant and the atmosphere was amazing. Unfortunately we didn't get in anywhere because of ID issues but it was still fun going into shops and just soaking up the atmosphere!

Here are a few photos:

Day 3/4: Tennessee and Ocoee

So yesterday was mainly a driving day so there wasn't really much to report. We were in the car for about 6 hours which for the majority I slept so it went pretty quickly.

Today has been so much fun. We had a 3 hour drive from our campsite last night but we went White Water Rafting today whicch was honestly one of the best experiences! It was so much fun to go down some really big rapids and thankfully I didn't fall out! I'm very proud of myself! (We bought a CD of pictures but I'll have to upload them when I get home!)

Tomorrow is on to Nashville, its going to be so much fun!

Day 2: Washington DC

Today was great!

We started with a bike tour of Washington and we were able to see all the sights which was great!

And we saw the White House!

We then had a free afternoon to do what we wanted so we went to the Holocaust Museum which was extremely interesting but also very moving.

These are some of the victims shoes:

One of the Jewish communities that got completely destroyed and everyone died:

After the Holocaust museum we thought we would do something slightly more lighthearted so we decided to go to the Air and Space Museum which was great. Here are a few of my favourite photos!

(How cute is the monkey!)

Thats it for day 2! We have a long 7 hour drive ahead of us tomorrow to the Appalachian Mountains.

Trek Day 1!

So after staying in a hotel last night and meeting up with Nicole who is also on the same trek as me, we started at 7.30 this morning and had a meeting. After the meeting we hit the road and headed towards Philadelphia.

We arrived in Philly at around 11 and wandered round and saw the Liberty Bell which was cool.

We then headed to a massive food market where we got Philly Cheesesteaks. They were so good!

We then had another 3 hour drive to DC where we're now staying in a really lovely campsite. Off to DC tomorrow!

Everyone seems really lovely, its going to be loads of fun! Can't wait to hit the road again!

Camp is over and my new adventures begin!

Its a bit of a late post but camp has now finished and it feels so weird!

We have a really lovely farewell banquet which got very emotional because I've made so many new friends. Its going to be tough not seeing them on a daily basis! I have definitely found a new family at Redwing!

A few phots from the banquet:

I'm currently in a hotel in Pittsburgh ready for my onward travels to New York tomorrow. Then the trek begins! Can't wait!!

Last full week at camp!

I can't believe only 3 days of actual camp left.... Its been really busy as everything is beginning to be shut up ready for next summer.

I've had a group of girls this week doing a camp called Night Crawlers, it was a very nature based camp, it also involved us sleeping under the stars one night, it was very cold but a great experience! I had one girl that would not stop following me around... I think she enjoyed herself a lot!

Backtracking a bit, last week finished off with a camp called Dad and me where young girls could come and experience camp with their dads. All the dads were very enthusiastic and it was lovely to see them participating in activities together.

Starting Monday we have Core camp - this is where troops will come with their leaders and take part in activities that we set up. It'll be interesting to experience another different style of camp.

We've had a very loong weekend off and yesterday I went shopping, it was GREAT! Although I wish I could have bought more...! There will always be other opportunities to shop!

Thats it for, next time I write camp will be over! Its definitely going to be an emotional week!
